This section is usually about movies that I've watched before. In the case of this movie, I'd have to make an exception. I did watch this movie, when I was younger, it scared the daylights out of me. I stopped halfway and never got to watching it completely. Today I am older and I'd like to think that I don't scare that easily. I've completed the movie and that's why this post is here!

The Story:
Vidyadhari (Seeta) works in a chit fund company headed by Chakradhar (Sudhakar) who lusts after her. She puts him in his place, hurting his ego. Chakradhar frames her in a fraud case in return and asks her to sleep with him if she wants to be freed from the charges. As a helpless Vidya looks on a stranger named Anudeep (Rajendra Prasad) appears before her and magically changes the mind of her boss by showing him a photograph. Anudeep tells a grateful Vidya that he fell in love with her 7 years ago when he saw her at a bus stop; but he never expressed his feelings knowing that she does not believe in love. Instead he chose to meditate about love to see if he truly loves her and returns 7 years later knowing that he does, gaining some magical powers. One day he challenges Vidyadhari that he will write on her body without her knowledge and he does. Seeing how upset she got with his act, Anudeep chops off his right hand as a punishment. When he comes across Vidyadhari, she screams in horror at the sight of him. This is noticed by a family friend of hers, an inspector (Ranganath) who interrogates Anudeep. To prove that he isn't lying about his powers, Anudeep grows his hand back. Ravi Shastri (Murali Mohan), a deputy inspector starts investigating his past. Vidyadhari chides Anudeep's magical powers as mesmerism and calls his acts as baits to win her over ; he gives up the powers to prove that his intentions towards her are honest. Later on she is asked to help in obtaining proofs against her boss by the police and in the process she is jailed for his murder. In reality Chakradhar's partner kills him with the help of a constable (Bramhi). Anudeep helps Ravi Shastri (who has learnt the truth about this penance) with clues pointing at her innocence. Chakradhar's partner and the constable try to kill Vidyadhari to cover themselves and Anudeep stops them, gravely wounded in the process. Ravi Shastri tells Vidyadhari the truth and she accepts Anudeep's love in the end.
Post Script:
The movies starts off with a prologue by the writer Yandamuri, whose novel thriller was adapted into this movie. He states that if munis can do penance and gain supernatural powers then a man who does penance for love should also be able to achieve the same powers. That is the basis on which he wrote this novel and states that it is an experimental fantasy. Which is important for the audience to understand as they should not look for logic in a plot like this. What struck me while I was watching this movie is how almost all the main actors are cast against their image. Rajendra Prasad, Bramhanandam and Sudhakar are all known for their comedy and here in this movie they have been cast as a serious lover and villains respectively. The halo effect behind Rajendra Prasad, the background music add to the thriller effect of the movie. The songs are beautiful. O Andama and Premalekha Raasa are my picks. The fantasy element has been stretched and the plot has been commercialized with songs and the emotional climax. I haven't read the book and I've heard that the ending in the book is different. I should get a copy. I guess the movie didn't work at the box office.
Worth
Maybe, If you are bored and want to kill time like me!
